Remember The Days When…
As I grow older in my age, I am flabbergasted by how drastically things have changed since we were kids. Please consider that I am not trashing or am I bitter about the present time, it’s amazing who would have thought that there would a bagel button on a toaster. Just amazing.
The other I sat down with a couple of my buddies sat down and we reminisced about the great cartoons that we watched as children. I was amazed and it brought joy to me that I remembered huddling up in front of the television and watched those amazing shows and cartoons. I’m sure you guys remember those classics such as Rugrats, Hey Arnold, Recess, Fillmore, Weekenders, Biker Mice From Mars, Arthur, Original Pokemon, Digimon, Reboot, Batman, Spiderman, X-Men, Superman, Darkwing Duck, the list is endless of amazing cartoons. That is one thing that is for sure in my mind that as the time went on cartoons got worse. What the hell kind of cartoons are on nowadays? I have no idea either.
Not only were there were there amazing cartoons on T.V, but there were also fantastic live action shows. I know that I was not the only kid who would rush home from school to catch the amazing shows on Fox and YTV. The great shows like Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and the endless question that would strike up never ending debate of who is better Jason the Red Ranger or Tommy the Green Ranger. I hate to break it to you Tommy fans but Jason could kick his ass any day. Also the great shows like Beetleborgs, VR Troopers, Superhuman Samurai Cyber Squad, and a whole lot more.
Now moving from the television screen to the silver screen. Remember the days without douche bags like Zac Effron and stupid, lame musical movies. The movies that changed our lives as kids forever. The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle trilogy. This movie changed my life so much that I would lie in bed and just dream to be a Ninja Turtle. In fact, one night I took the next step, as I colored myself green with a marker to attempt to be a Ninja Turtle. Other movies that were essential to our lives were: The Sandlot, Ghostbusters, The Disney Classics, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Charlie and The Chocolate Factory (Without Johnny Depp), The Mighty Ducks Trilogy, and many many more.
Finally I would like to talk about how great the music from the 90’s were even if at the time we thought it was terrible. The 90’s brought us a wide range of fantastic musical performers but it also brought us some stinkers who will be remembered forever. These acts included: The Spice Girls, The Backstreet Boys, NSync, Take That, and basically any other boy or girl bands. I’m sure you guys all remember the great acts that changed our generation forever. Nirvana changed the lifes of many teens and still to this day allow us to rock out pretty hard. Remember those bands that were not that great but came up with some classic 90’s music like Third Eye Blind, Matchbox Twenty, Jimmy Eat World, Smash Mouth, etc. Also, do you guys remember when Blink 182 came out with those catchy tunes and hilarious music videos, they got everyone to show off their punk side. Oh man does it ever bring me back. Indeed.
As we remember the great shows, movies, and music from the times when we were just little kids, doesn’t it just bring joy to your face and bring tears to your eyes. As I conclude this blog, I would like to be a little cliche for a bit, to get to your future we must go through our great past, or something like that.
Spread love it’s the Brooklyn way.
